Waikato University Law and Management Building

The University of Waikato’s Law & Management Building was an 600m2 extension to the existing management school faculty building. The 5-storey building was designed as three separate structures; podium building, tower and MSB Building.

Project requirements

The building contains teaching rooms, offices, dedicated spaces for postgraduate students, shared student services, shared computer labs, a reception area and a ceremonial space for meetings with university visitors. The Living Green Roof connects the buildings together providing a welcoming space for students and provides natural ventilation.

Allco Solution

Allco Applicator Arid Technologies carried out the installation of Allco’s Volclay Membrane and Casali Green Roof Membranes. The project’s highlight for Allco is the waterproofing of the roof decks with a lawn garden build-up. The lawn garden roof system allowed the University to create a softer landscape with a public statement of a greener environment. The concept also incorporated hardscapes like gravels and pavers to enable better perimeter drainage and pedestrian access. A lawn garden requires only essential maintenance, similar to any typical lawn area.
