Project Details

Project Name: Metlifecare Greenwich Gardens

Builder: Haydn + Rollett

Products Used: Volclay Product Range

Completed: October 2017

The Project

Metlifecare Greenwich Gardens is a residential retirement village across 4.4 hectares located on Auckland’s North Shore, consisting of a range of villas and apartments. The village’s facilities include beautiful green spaces, an indoor swimming pool and a state-of-the-art care home

PROJECT REQUIREMENT

This large, multi-stage retirement village required a robust waterproofing solution to mitigate a range of challenges including shotcrete walls and site access.

The use of shotcrete walls means need special attention and support is needed when waterproofing to ensure a watertight installation alongside a comprehensive waterproofing solution.

The project required the tanking of large ground beams with a wall/floor joint that needed special attention to ensure water tightness.

ALLCO SOLUTION

The full CETCO Volclay range was chosen for this project due to its ability to handle a variety of detailing across the different build sequences and structural design variation or types.

Voltex DS was the chosen membrane as it is specifically designed to waterproof shotcrete retaining walls. The high strength of the of Voltex DS uses the fantastic properties of the standard Voltex geotextile membrane with an additional HDPE Liner to the outer face that gives added advantages, ensuring durability and additional protection against water vapour transmission.

The shotcrete walls had to be done in stages due to the size of the project resulting in potential exposure to water for an extended period. The benefit of using Voltex DS is it can be installed on both wet and dry substrates and staged wall / floor construction so was the perfect solution for the varying conditions of the Greenwich site.

This large project included multiple lift pits, an indoor swimming pool, internal and external walls as well as many retaining walls which all needed to be waterproofed across the 2-year build. These conditions required the versatility of the Volclay System as it can be applied to wet substrates and in any weather.

The high level of communication between Haydn + Rollett, Allco Applicators and the Allco TA Team throughout construction have resulted in a seamless installation and successful project.
