EMSHIELD WFR2 is a watertight, fire-rated, dual-sided primary seal for both new and retrofit structural expansion joints in wall applications.
EMSHIELD WFR2 features dual-sided silicone sealing surfaces adhered to a fire-retardant impregnated foam backing. Both sides of the expansion joint are waterproof and fire-rated.
As a single unit fire-rated expansion joint, EMSHIELD eliminates the need for additional fire stops at the joint gap thereby eliminating the need for multiple separate products that perform the roles of sealing, bridging and fire-rating joints - with EMSHIELD WFR2 one install does it all.
This can be used alone or under any other expansion joint cover, plate or filler where depth of substrate allows.
EMSHIELD WFR2 provides a watertight, clean handling, UV stable, non-staining, low-temperature-flexible, high-temperature-stable, watertight, energy-efficient and fire-rated joint in a single installation process.

*Substrates must be solid, parallel and plumb.
Watertight – EMSHIELD WFR2 is installed with tensionless bellows, which when installed with an optional silicone bead on the weather face, maintain a watertight seal.
Fire-Rated – The fire-retardant-impregnated foam, when properly installed, ensures a 2-hour fire protection in accordance with UL-2079 and has been BRANZ appraised for 2 hours of fire resistance.
Sound Attenuation – EMSHIELD WFR2 minimizes sound transfer which often occurs at the expansion gap. The tested results for 1 1/2” WFR2 in an STC 68 / OITC 51 wall are an STC value of 64 and an OITC value of 52.
Non-Invasive Anchoring – There are no hard metal-to-substrate connections with EMSHIELD WFR2. This includes embedded pins, anchors, screws, bolts or tracks, trays or rails, flanges or coverplates. The system is locked to the joint faces by means of the 1) backpressure of the foam; 2) the epoxy adhesive, and 3) the injected sealant bands at the joint face.
Testing and Standards - EMSHIELD WFR2 has been tested and certified under AS 1530.4-2005, UL 2079 and has been tested and appraised by BRANZ (FR 4002).
A weather tight, thermally and acoustically insulated, joint system capable of cycling through the engineered movement requirement and colour matched to the finished facade on three joints with a fire rating requirement on one. The movement requirements were both laterally and in shear.
