The Ironbank building was winner of two awards in the 2010 New Zealand Architecture Awards - Commercial Architecture and Sustainable Architecture.

The Ironbank building was also New Zealand's first building with a 5-Star Green Star Office As Built rating.

There are reasons why Shotcrete and blindside waterproofing are not always compatible for creating a water-tight below grade basement. Inconsistent application of Shotcrete onto the waterproofing membrane surface and the high velocity of Shotcrete can dislodge the waterproofing or blow open the waterproofing seams.

The construction joints were Shotcrete meeting the basement piles and beams. These areas were also problematic and if not correctly detailed can provide a conduit for moisture migration. Correctly waterproofing below grade walls takes a systematic approach from the design team, shotcrete applicator, waterproofing applicator and independent waterproofing inspector. With so many factors to consider, architects, engineers and owners must also be wary of value-engineering the waterproofing system.

Simply put, the amount saved using an inferior product can quickly evaporate and turn into enormous expense when repairs are required.
