The first BRANZ appraised Bentonite Waterproofing System in New Zealand
Volclay® waterproofing products offer total solution waterproofing. With Volclay's single source capability, you can be sure of a totally integrated waterproofing system that yields ultimate performance. Each product uses the natural swelling and self-healing properties of Volclay® sodium bentonite. This unique mineral was formed from volcanic ash and saltwater millions of years ago, making Volclay® products the most environmentally sensitive on the market today. All contain zero VOC, can be installed in almost any weather condition to green concrete, and most importantly, have proven effective for more than 30 years.
When wetted, unconfined bentonite can swell 15 to 16 times its dry volume. When confined under pressure, the bentonite forms an impervious, water-resistant membrane. With the Volclay® Waterproofing System, the problem activates the solution, reliably and automatically. If penetrated after installation, Volclay® Waterproofing will self-heal and can seal tiny cracks caused by ground settlement, concrete shrinkage, or seismic action; problems over which there is normally no control.
Since 1963, over one hundred million square metres of Volclay® waterproofing products have been installed around the world becoming the standard by which all other waterproofing membranes are measured.
By specifying Volclay® products, you are assured of optimum waterproofing performance from products specifically engineered to be integrated and installed as a complete waterproofing system. Volclay® manufactures and markets a complete line of quality waterproofing membranes, waterstops, drainage composites as well as a complete line of installation accessories – everything you need from the bottom of the excavation up.
The broad product range and installation versatility of out waterproofing systems allow you to work with a single manufacturer to cover all of your waterproofing needs. From zero-lot property line construction to backfilled foundation walls to underslab and plaza deck applications, Volclay® has the waterproofing solution.
All New Zealand system warranties are underwritten by the manufacturer, Colloid Environmental Technologies Company (CETCO®), a wholly owned subsidiary of AMCOL International Corporation of America, and they have warrantee periods ranging from 10 to 15 years, dependant on the level of encapsulation.
Volclay® meets and exceeds the 50 year durability as required by the New Zealand Building Code.
“Most leaks occur not because the materials were defective, but because of these primary causes”*
Poorly Prepared Substrates
One cannot expect a waterproofing membrane to perform correctly when applied to an improperly prepared substrate.
Improper Installation and Detailing
Leaks are often a result of human errors in installation and detailing. Even a minor mistake can lead to significant damage.
Damage After Installation
Waterproofing is routinely damaged by subsequent construction traffic and operations.
“Field” Solutions to Specific Jobsite Needs
Incomplete or faulty installations to keep the project on schedule and keep the initial expense down raise questions about quality.
