The basic idea behind chemical waterproofing is to prevent the movement of water through the concrete by plugging or blocking the natural pores and capillaries found in all concrete. There are two methods of application: brush applied, or integral.
Kryton International, Inc. manufactures the world-renown Krystol concrete waterproofing system consisting of Krystol T1/T2 brush applied waterproofing treatment for existing concrete and KIM (Krystol Internal Membrane) admixture for new concrete. Both offer significant advantages over conventional waterproofing products.

Krystol T1/T2
Krystol T1/T2 concrete waterproofing treatment is a cost-effective, permanent and reliable alternative to traditional membrane-based waterproofing systems for prevention, repair and maintenance of existing concrete structures.
Krystol technology becomes an integral part of the concrete. It is surface applied to existing structures to repair leaking concrete and eliminate future leaking through micro cracks and pores. The Krystol T1/T2 System is permanent and replaces the need for conventional membranes. When applied, millions of needle-like crystals form and fill the naturally occurring capillary pores and microscopic voids within the concrete. Paths for harmful moisture and aggressive chemicals are blocked.

KIM (Krystol Internal Membrane)
KIM is a unique crystal-forming additive that provides long-term protection for buildings and other structures by waterproofing concrete from the inside out. KIM is added to batches of concrete during the mixing process for new construction projects. The high-growth organic component of the product reacts with water and un-hydrated particles in concrete to form millions of needle-like crystals. These crystals grow and migrate through the concrete to fill in hair-thin pores and microscopic voids that would otherwise serve as passages for harmful moisture.
KIM technology enhances the natural hydration process in concrete, increasing compressive strength over time and dramatically reducing cracking caused by shrinkage. KIM is also self-sealing. The high-growth organic chemicals left over from the initial cure period remain dormant in the concrete for years. When factors such as settling cause minute cracks in the concrete, KIM seals these cracks without the need for costly maintenance. A 25-year warranty for KIM is available.

Krystol Plug
A powder that, when mixed to a stiff-dough consistency with water, may be used to immediately arrest the seepage or flow of water through concrete cracks. Within two minutes, Krystol Plug sets to a completely waterproof seal and continues to harden until its strength exceeds that of the concrete onto which it has been applied.
